Project: Appleton Play Area

New Park in Rural Oxfordshire An imaginatively designed space with natural elements and play structures to stimulate play.

Jubilee Park was a tribute to a very hardworking and determined group of mums from the village of Appleton. Carolyn Place, Director of the practice worked with them and supported them in designing and constructing an exciting park on the edge of their village.

The park was constructed on part of an agricultural field adjacent to the village tennis club. Being located on the edge of the village and facing open countryside it was important that the finished play area and its surrounds were aesthetically pleasing and in keeping with the rural surroundings.

The design incorporated contemporary timber and metal play equipment which resulted in an exciting and challenging play area. The scheme also incorporated and native planting including a boundary hedge and a number of trees. Bespoke planters maintained by the village gardening club contribute to a very special and friendly community space.
