Extensive refurbishment was carried out creating a generous and contemporary corporate feel to a 1980’s brick office building. With a very tight timescale for implementation our brief was to create a sense of arrival to the new entrance to Balliol House. The striking new entrance portico had compromised the circulation of the adjacent car park.
Our design created an attractive spacious plaza space in front of the building. Contemporary blocks with a granite aggregate surface were introduced with grey detailing to complement the grey features on the building. The blocks were used to highlight the entrance and are in keeping with the new reception area. Within the carpark area porous paving was integrated to meet planning requirements. These were chosen to relate to the existing blocks but also highlight the vehicular entrance.
The soft landscape scheme, particularly adjacent to the building has crisp and geometric lines formed with a clipped Yew hedge and cube headed Hornbeam trees. Additional new trees have also been introduced where the realigned footpath meets the existing footpath. Further tree management / planting is proposed in this area in the winter 2017.
