Project: Signal Yard, Milton Park
Signal Yard, located at Milton Park, the UK’s largest single-ownership innovation community for science and technology, is now open. The project elevates the site’s amenity offer and creates a distinctive destination for occupiers and visitors alike, with verdant planting, façade planting, a rainwater garden and event space.
ASA Landscape Architects led the exterior design, transforming the existing space into a lively, welcoming destination centred on sustainability, inclusivity and community. Through a landscape-led approach, much of the existing car parking and the tensile tent were removed, creating a vibrant event space, a stronger arrival experience, and enhanced connections to Park Drive and the adjacent lagoon.
In line with the commitment to sustainability, the design retains as many mature trees as possible while introducing 45 new trees, native hedges and nectar-rich ornamental planting. A new rain garden manages and purifies rainwater from surrounding surfaces before it reaches the adjacent lagoon, strengthening both biodiversity and amenity value.
Removing the tensile tent has brought more light into the space, supporting a striking new hanging garden feature across the existing buildings and new timber structures. Raised planters, generous seating and lush planting now create a verdant, welcoming environment for all to enjoy.
To the east, a new Boardwalk constructed from carbon-neutral bamboo decking provides a calm, reflective route along the existing lagoon, with seating that encourages peaceful moments beside the water.
With its reimagined landscape and repurposed buildings, Signal Yard establishes a vibrant centrepiece for socialising and community-building. It offers an ideal setting for seasonal activities and events, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for Milton Park.
